ST Depression, Heart Rate, and Blood Pressure during Arm and Leg Work

Pages 411-414 | Received 23 Mar 1972, Accepted 25 Sep 1972, Published online: 13 May 2010

Abstract

Seventeen male subjects 57–72 years of age, with previous history of ST segment depression in the exercise ECG, were studied during lifting work with the arms above waist level and during cycling work. Heart rate and intra-arterial blood pressure were greater during lifting work than in cycling work at a given energy metabolism. The ST depression was greater in lifting work than in cycling work. These observations led to recommendations of practical significance in the selection of work places.
