The Renal Excretion of Cortisol

Pages 115-118 | Received 10 May 1972, Accepted 23 Nov 1972, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The renal excretion of cortisol was studied in 6 healthy subjects. A close linear correlation between the excretion of non-conjugated cortisol and the plasma level of non-protein-bound cortisol was established (r=0.88). A similar linear relation was present between the glomerular filtration and the tubular reabsorption of cortisol. The renal clearance of non-protein-bound cortisol was found to range from 13 to 50 ml/min, with a mean of 30 ml/min. There was no correlation between the plasma level and the clearance.
