Abstract
Absorption of lymph from the foot was studied in 10 patients previously treated for simple ankle fractures with immobilization in plaster cast. The investigation was performed 2 to 41 days after removal of the cast. The disappearance rate of RISA was used as indicator of lymph transport, with the normal leg serving as control. Eight patients had significant edema of the ankle and foot. The disappearance rate of RISA in these patients was reduced by, on an average, 50 per cent, indicating impaired lymph absorption. The etiology of this reduction is discussed.
