Relationship between Lipid Composition of Very Low Density Lipoprotein and Electrophoretic Mobility in Agarose Gel

Eleven patients with type IV hyperlipoproteinaemia were investigated. The lipid composition of three very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) subfractions (S_f 100–400, 60–100, and 20–60) obtained by density gradient ultracentrifuga-tion were compared with their electrophoretic mobility in agarose gel. With decreasing S_f values there was cholesterol and phospholipid enrichment relative to triglyceride. All subjects had lipoprotein with β mobility (LPβ) in the S_f fraction of 20–60. LPβ may represent normally occurring intermediary particles.
