Abstract
A recently marketed portable miniphotometer (Compur M 1002) which measures blood glucose concentration (BG) in disposable reagent-containing cuvettes was investigated. Dimensions are: 177±78±32 mm, weight 340 g with rechargeable batteries. Two hundred and forty-nine blood samples were analysed in duplicate and compared with the routine laboratory method, both using glucose-oxidase peroxidase a.m. Trinder. The correlation was highly significant (r=0.9919, P < 0.001, y=0.3712+ 1.0258x). Five μl of blood or plasma are requested. The duration of BG determination is 8—9 min per analysis. The intra-assay CV was 2.2—2.6% for the Compur and 1.1—3.3% for the reference method. The interassay CV was 2.0—5.0% and 2.1—3.9%, respectively. Recovery was 96—106%. Seventeen untrained diabetics used the miniphotometer without difficulty.
