Further Studies on ex Vivo Isolated Perfused Canine Stomach: Role of Antrum as An Inhibitor of Gastric Secretory Function

Abstract

The effect of acidification of vagally intact and vagally denervated antrum on histamine-stimulated parietal cell secretion was investigated in vivo and in ex vivo isolated, perfused canine stomachs. Our data do not support the hypothesis that low antral pH induces production of an inhibitory substance by the antrum. The observations may favor the hypothesis of the duodenal inhibitory mechanism depending upon the integrity of nervous pathways between stomach and duodenum.
