The Maximal Pancreatic Secretion in Dogs

Pages 140-143 | Received 29 Nov 1967, Published online: 25 Feb 2010

Abstract

The maximal, pancreatic secretion has been studied in five dogs with chronic Thomas type fistulae and gastrostomies.

In four out of five dogs the maximal secretion rates of fluid and bicarbonate, obtained after isolated, maximal secretin stimulation, were significantly lower than the maximal rates observed after combined secretin-pancreozymin stimulation. It is suggested that the response after the latter stimulation represents the maximal secretory capacity of fluid and bicarbonate of the pancreatic gland.

A significantly higher secretion rate of protein after combined stimulation, as compared to the secretion rate after isolated stimulation with pancreozymin, was observed in three out of four dogs.
