Abstract

Radial force has been recorded from the anal canal during electrical stimulation from an intraluminal plug. A pulse of 1 m sec. width, 20 p.p.s. frequency and 3 ma intensity provides the minimal effective stimulation. Whereas the force falls off rapidly if a continuous stimulation is used, by applying stimulation at intervals of 20 seconds for periods of 10 seconds, reproducible force responses are obtained each time the stimulus is applied.
