Abstract
The uptake of a diffusible, water-soluble test substance (radioactive iodide solution) from a dimensionally and positionally defined intestinal segment was measured. The results have been regarded as an indirect expression of the exchange circulation of the intestinal mucosa. Immediately after and 5 hours after the removal of 5 ml and 6 ml of blood, corresponding to 27 per cent and 33 per cent of the total blood volume, respectively, the exchange circulation of the intestinal mucosa, according to the above criteria, was only negligibly — or not at all — reduced.
