Abstract

After 60 units of ACTH, a marked increase in tissue eosinophilia occurred at 3 hours in 3 out of 5 cases, followed at 6 hours by a significant decrease in all cases. After 120 units of ACTH, mucosal eosinophils showed a significant decrease in all cases 8 hours after the start of the treatment. In both experiments blood eosinophils showed a continuous and strong decrease in all cases. Long-term treatment with 20 mg/day of prednisone caused a significant decrease of gastric mucosal eosinophilia at 2 weeks, followed by an additional decrease 12 weeks after the start of the treatment.
