Abstract

Upon subcutaneous injection, gastrin extracts prepared from hog antral mucosa stimulated both acid and pepsin secretion in pylorus-ligated rats. However, as the dose of subcutaneous gastrin was raised to supramaximal levels, acid secretion remained stimulated, but pepsin secretion was depressed. Intravenous injection of gastrin extracts had no effect on acid secretion, but stimulated pepsin.
