Abstract

Standardized vitamin A absorption tests were performed on 187 children and 139 adults without disorders in the alimentary tract. The mean values and the normal limits for the fasting and the postabsorptive serum vitamin A levels were estimated. Both levels were found to vary considerably with age and serum β-lipoprotein level. The mean values were lowest for children, higher for adults with disorders in the locomotor system, and highest for adults with diabetes mellitus or atherosclerosis.
