Immunoglobulin-containing Cells in Normal Jejunal Mucosa and in Ulcerative Colitis and Regional Enteritis

Abstract

Immunofluorescence microscopy studies of jejunal biopsies from 8 controls, 9 patients with Crohn's disease, and 6 patients with ulcerative colitis are reported. Quantitation of IgA-, IgM-. and IgG-containing cells was made. In Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis an increased amount of plasma cells were found and, further, in the ulcerative colitis group a higher proportion of IgM- and IgG-containing cells.
