Colonoscopy. A Study of 50 Cases

Pages 687-691 | Received 28 Jun 1971, Accepted 05 Sep 1971, Published online: 23 Feb 2010

Abstract

The results of 50 colonoscopies performed with the long colonoscope are presented. The investigation shows that it is now possible to make an examination of the entire colon. The rate of insertion to the ascending colon was 44%. The great value of the long colonoscope is due to the fact that in most cases it makes it possible to provide information about the exact nature of the injury. The colonoscopy has revealed more positive results concerning infectious lesions and smaller polyps than X-ray examination with barium enema, but the investigation demonstrates too that X-ray examination is still necessary if the greatest possible diagnostical safety is wanted.
