Abstract

Recording of the intragastric pressure/volume relationship has been undertaken in patients with duodenal ulcer before and after administration of 30 mg LU 3–010 (phthalapromine) i. v. The gastric pressure was recorded by means of a large, thin-walled plastic bag, a technique previously described. The results showed a depressing effect of LU 3–010 on gastric motility. Peristaltic peaks slowly reappeared in the course of an hour, but increasing gastric volume had a trigger-effect on the motility. The possible ways of action are discussed. As the drug seems effective in abolishing gastric hypermotility it may prove useful in the treatment of duodenal ulcer.
