Abstract

The absorption of intraduodenally infused fructose (6 % solution) was studied by simultaneous sampling of portal and arterial blood in 6 patients without liver disease. The absorption of fructose was equally as rapid as after infusion of a corresponding amount of glucose. No significant conversion of fructose to glucose during transport through the intestinal mucosa was demonstrated.
