Abstract

Meal-stimulated gastric acid secretion was measured by intragastric titration before and after jejuno-ileal bypass operation in five obese patients. Acid secretion was significantly reduced after the operation, particularly during the late phase of the acid response, suggesting that stimulation of acid secretion may be elicited from the upper small intestine by a composite meal. Serum gastrin concentrations remained unchanged after the operation.
