The Effect of Hypercarbia on Gastric Mucosal Flow in Conscious Animals

Pages 657-661 | Received 12 Nov 1981, Accepted 18 Jan 1982, Published online: 19 Feb 2010

Abstract

Gastric mucosal flow was measured in conscious cats with hydrogen clearance techniques. When they were exposed to hypercarbia through inhalation of a mixture of air and carbon dioxide, a significant increase of gastric mucosal flow occurred. Monitoring of Pco2 values therefore appears important in experimental studies of gastric flow.
