Effect of Omeprazole on Gastric Mucosal Blood Flow in the Rat

&
Pages 72-74 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Omeprazole is a potent inhibitor of gastric acid secretion in various animals and in man (1, 2). When given orally the compound also protects the rat gastric mucosa against experimentally induced gastric lesions (3, 4). The mechanism of this effect seems to be local and unconnected with the inhibition of acid secretion, as antisecretory doses given parenterally do not have any protective effect.
