Abstract
Omeprazole is known to be a potent inhibitor of gastric acid secretion in dogs in acute experiments (1). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effects of long-term treatment with omeprazole on acid secretion and blood levels of gastrointestinal hormones, and to correlate these functional parameters with possible structural changes. The parameters were studied before, during, and after a 1–year period of treatment with two dose levels of omeprazole.
