Abstract
Oral prostaglandins have protective properties against experimentally induced lesions in the gastric mucosa that are unrelated to inhibition of acid secretion (1). This effect has also been shown for other substances, such as sulphydryl compounds (2). The purpose of this study was to determine whether omeprazole provides protection against experimentally induced gastric mucosal lesions, and against vascular leakage induced by ethanol in the stomach of the rat.
