Antacids, Pepsin Inhibitors, and Gastric Cooling in the Management of Massive Upper Gastrointestinal Haemorrhage

Pages 33-38 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

On the basis of the clinical evidence available there is no indication for treating acute upper gastrointestinal bleeding with antacids, pepsin inhibitors, or gastric cooling. Intensive treatment with continuously administered antacids, water-soluble pepsin inhibitors, or ice-water lavage, however, has not yet been evaluated in controlled clinical trials.
