A Pathologist's Checklist for Evaluation of Patients with Gastric Carcinoma

Pages 40-42 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The pathologist characterizes tumors by typing, grading, and staging. Detailed guidelines for oncological examination of patients with gastric carcinoma are presented, including endoscopic forceps biopsies, endoscopic polypectomies, and gastrectomy specimens. The obligatory and the desirable statements of the pathologist are listed (‘checklist’). For tumor classification the international recommendations given by WHO, UICC, and AJCC should be used.
