Abstract

Since 1982 the OMGE Education Committee has collected data from most of the gastroenterological associations in the world showing that there is no uniform view on the need for speciality in gastroenterology or on the requirements for education and training. We therefore felt that the time had come for an international workshop to obtain agreement about the necessity to organize a speciality in gastroenterology in all countries and to provide recommendations for the requirements of education and training to obtain the licence.
