Special Article: Statistical Guidelines for Contributors to Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology

Abstract

Like medicine, statistics is an art requiring a good portion of judgement and common sense as well as formal skills. It is therefore not always possible to claim superiority of one statistical technique over another in a given situation. However, several studies have indicated that about half of all biomedical research papers contain obvious statistical errors, several of which may be corrected by proper instructions to authors or by specific statistical reviewing of the papers—hence the present guidelines.
