Suprapubic Prostatectomy with Peroperative Dicumarol and Epsilon-Aminocaproic Acid Prophylaxis

Pages 1-9 | Received 01 Sep 1966, Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

In 100 consecutive cases of prostatic hypertrophy, prostatectomy was performed during anticoagulant prophylaxis with dicumarol or marcoumar. Anti-fibrinolytic prophylaxis with epsilon-aminocaproic acid (E-ACA) was given simultaneously during and after the operation. The incidence of postoperative thromboembolic complications was significantly reduced as compared with that in 100 controls who did not receive the prophylactic medication. Anticoagulant prophylaxis does not increase the blood loss during or after prostatectomy if it is combined with E-ACA.
