Abstract
The early effect of unilateral nephrectomy on the blood pressure and the degree of juxtaglomerular cell granulation in the remaining kidney was investigated in the rat. No blood pressure alterations were recorded during the experimental period (64 days). The remaining kidney showed a slight increase in the degree of juxtaglomerular cell granulation which was evident throughout the experimental period. The findings indirectly suggest that the increase in juxtaglomerular cell granulation apparent in the untouched kidney two weeks after removal of the clipped kidney in the hypertensive rat is to a certain, although probably minor, degree a compensatory feature due to the nephrectomy.
