Abstract
The object of the study was to examine the morphologic and functional reactions of the renal allografts in the dog receiving immunodepressive drugs. Fourteen dogs given (Imuran and prednisolone) each received a renal allograft. Eight were examined 14–21 days later. Determinations were made of the renal blood flow, extraction of PAH, radiovitamin B12 and/or inulin, glomerular filtration rate and filtration fraction, and any morphologic alterations were recorded. In the cases in which the immunodepressive treatment was not effective enough, the renal blood flow, extraction of PAH and radiovitamin B12, glomerular filtration rate and filtration fraction were greatly diminished, there was strong morphologic evidence of rejection and a pathologic intrarenal vascular pattern. In the cases in which the drug therapy was more effective the function of 2 grafts 2–3 weeks later was uneffected and in 2 other it was only moderately impaired; morphologic alterations were sparse and the intrarenal vascular pattern was well preserved.
