Implant Metastases to the Ureteral Stump from Hypernephroma: Report of a Case

&
Pages 81-82 | Received 25 Apr 1969, Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

A case is reported in which, after nephrectomy for hypernephroma, metastases appeared in the ureteral stump. Direct urogenous implantation was considered to have occurred, since the tumour had penetrated to the renal pelvis and malignant cells were found in the urine preoperatively. Primary total nephro-ureterectomy is advocated in such cases. Retrograde pyelography is contraindicated when there is massive haematuria, as it may lead to implantation of tumour metastases in the ureter.
