Abstract
In a clinical trial, 100 dialyses with the presterilized Alwall disposable plate dialyser were compared with 97 dialyses with the modified, two-layer Kiil dialyser. Only small differences were found, as far as resistance to blood and dialysate flow, blood volume, and capacity for ultrafiltration were concerned, whereas both the urea and the creatinine dialysances were significantly higher in the disposable dialyser than in the Kiil dialyser. The estimated cost per dialysis was about 50 Danish kroner higher with the disposable dialyser, in spite of a reduction in the work of the technicians from 4 1/2 hours to 30 minutes per dialysis.
