Abstract
Antifibrinolytic premedication with tranexamic acid (Cyklokapron) was given to 30 rabbits before renal puncture. Renal angiography 1 week after puncture revealed only two arteriovenous fistulae. In a previous experimental szries kidney puncture under the same conditions, but without administration of Cyklokapron, resulted in 14 arteriovenous fistulae in 36 rabbits. The difference between these results is significant.
The investigation indicates that antifibrinolytic premedication before renal biopsy may be of value in order to reduce the frequency of renal arteriovenous fistulae following renal biopsy, which have been found to be more common than formerly believed.
