Abstract

609 percutaneous renal biopsies were performed in 473 patients.

A renal specimen was obtained in 60 per cent with blind technique, in 65 per cent with X-ray guidance and in 47 per cent with ultrasound technique. By repeating the procedure a specimen was obtained in a total of 90 per cent of patients with a serum creatinine > 30 mg per liter and in 70 per cent of patients with a serum creatinine <30 mg per liter.

Macroscopic hematuria was seen in 12 per cent, perirenal hematoma in one per cent. One patient died from bleeding. Arterial hypertension did not increase the number or the severity of the complications.
