Dorsal Incision of the Prepuce and Skin Closure with Dexon in Patients with Phimosis

Pages 97-99 | Received 26 Aug 1972, Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

A small skin incision in the dorsal part of the prepuce and division of the subcutaneous circular fibrous ring, dorsal incision, was used for the operative treatment of 60 patients with phimosis. Six months after this operation, 59 boys could freely retract their prepuce. One boy got secondary phimosis but was successfully re-operated. The cosmetic result of the operation was satisfactory. This operative method seems to have certain advantages over circumcision, dorsal split and stretching of the prepuce. A new absorbable synthetic fibre, Dexon, was used for suturing. This fibre is easy to handle, causes little tissue reaction and can be left in the suture line. Dexon can replace catgut in the surgery of the prepuce.
