Abstract

Two casey of herpes zoster with unilateral lesions of the urinary bladder and total urinary retentior are reported. After a period with indwelling catheter, both patients were again able lo empty their bladdcrs. Cysto-metrographic examination demonstrated bladder paralysis in the acute stage but after a period of some months active detrusor contraction was recorded in both cases. In one of the cases a cutaneous rash was never found; nevertheless the diagnosis seems well established. It is stressed that the treatment should be primarily conservativc even in old men in whom a prostatic enlargement can be supposed to cause urinary retention.
