Abstract
A report is given about the preservation of 32 human kidneys by continuous perfusion with the Gambro perfusion unit. The cadaver donors were pretreated with phenoxybenzamine, hydrocortisone, mannitol and heparin. A 5% albumin solution was used as perfusate instead of cryoprecipitated filtrated plasma. Because of anatomical abnormalities, poor viability and no suitable recipient, only 21 kidneys were transplanted. A method is described to perform arteriographies of the preserved kidneys. Valuable information concerning the extent of perfusion and the viability of potential transplants can be obtained. It is suggested to evaluate machine preserved kidneys by arteriography before transplantation.
