Abstract

Bone marrow smears from 20 patients with chronic renal failure and on regular haemodialysis treatment (RDT) were morphologically analysed. A doubleblind study of treatment with high doses of vitamin B6 showed that the patients receiving pyridoxine got raising frequencies of lymphocytes and monocytes in the bone marrow and there were morphologic signs of a normalization within the granulopoiesis. It is suggested that this is a sign of an enhancement of the immune response. The vitamin supplementation had no significant effects on the pronounced anaemia of the patients.
