Abstract
The findings from primary cystoscopic biopsy were compared with those from resected (TUR B) tissue in 50 consecutive cases of newly diagnosed bladder tumour. There was a clear tendency to underestimate the cytologic grade of malignancy in forceps biopsies, particularly in the more highly differentiated tumours. The diagnosis of transitional cell tumour grade I from a forceps biopsy is uncertain. Demonstration of invasive growth was more frequent in the TUR B specimens than in the primary diagnostic biopsies.
