Performance Specifications for Hearing Aids and Conditions of Use

Pages 3-6 | Published online: 12 Oct 2009

Abstract

A comparison has been made of silicon and germanium transistors when used in hearing aids. The effects of temperature, battery voltage, internal resistance of the battery, peak clipping and volume control position are considered. While silicon transistors have better temperature characteristics, germanium transistors show less dependance upon battery voltage, typical performance figures are given for both types of transistor.
