Abstract

1. [14C]Benapryzine is absorbed after oral administration to the rat and is completely metabolized, the major route of excretion of metabolites being in the bile.

2. The principal metabolites in the rat are benzilic acid and ethylpropylamino-ethanol.

3. The same metabolites are found in the urine of Parkinsonian patients receiving the drug, from which it is inferred that man metabolizes the drug essentially in the same way as the rat.

4. The distribution of the drug in mice was studied by whole-body autoradiography.

5. Evidence was obtained that unchanged Benapryzine penetrates into rat brain cells.
