Biosynthesis of Sulphated Hydroxypentylmercapturic Acids and the Metabolism of I-Bromopentane in the Rat

Abstract

1. Rats dosed with 1-bromopentane excrete in addition to pentylmercapturic acid, 2- and 3-hydroxypentylmercapturic acids, largely in the form of their sulphate esters; traces of 4-hydroxypentylmercapturic acid are also excreted.

2. 4-Carboxybutylmercapturic acid is a metabolite of 1-bromopentane in the rat.

3. The amounts of metabolites excreted by rats dosed with 1-bromopentane have been determined and confirmed by the administration of [1-¹⁴C]-1-bromopentane.
