Abstract

1. SK & F 21687 is a triazino-indole exhibiting potent in vitro activity against a broad spectrum of rhinoviruses.

2. The comparative metabolism of this compound was determined in mice, rats, dogs and primates. The compound was absorbed to varying degrees in all species after oral administration.

3. SK & F 21687 was metabolically transformed in all species by oxidation of the side-chain alcohol to a carboxylic acid, a major metabolite. This metabolite was found to be inactive as an antiviral.
