Abstract

1. The dealkylation and side-chain hydroxylation of 1 -(4-acetylnaphthyl) ethers by rat liver microsomes is described. The proportions of compounds metabolized by both routes are determined and shown to vary according to the length of the alkyl side-chain.

2. Metabolites formed by side-chain hydroxylation are identified by g.l.c.-mass spectrometry and by comparison with authentic materials.
