A major rat faecal metabolite of ipronidazole

Abstract

1. A major water-soluble metabolite of ipronidazole (1-methyl-2-isopropyl-5-nitroimidazole) has been isolated from the faeces of bile-cannulated rats.

2. This metabolite has been identified by spectroscopic and chemical methods as 2,3-dihydro-2-(2-hydroxypropyl)-3-methyl-4-nitro-1H-imidazol-5-ol.
