Abstract

The authors have developed a new type of pure tone audiometer which is built in the micro-computer and can measure automatically the air conduction thresholds in accordance with the testing program based on the standard manual audiometric procedure. The main characteristics of the equipment are as follows: 1. The pure tones of 4 of the 9 frequencies from 125 to 8000 Hz can be voluntarily chosen for automatic testing. Programs for instructions to subjects, subject's response practice and standard audiometric procedure are stored in the equipment. 2. The audiometer measures automatically the same threshold levels as those measured by the conventional manually operated pure tone audiometer. Of course, the equipment can also be used manually. 3. The threshold levels and messages obtained both automatically and manually can be punched on paper tape for off-line batch-processing purposes.
