The child study: a multipurpose practical project in behavioural science

Abstract

This paper describes a behavioural science practical project suitable for preclinical medical students, in the form of a child study. The practical has low costs yet offers multiple benefits to students, including (a) first-hand exploration of the concepts of psychosocial development, (b) encouragement of self-directed learning and appraisal of research methodology, and (c) teaching and assessment of communication skills.
