Summary

Summary

The records of 1000 patients treated by laser ablation for cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia and followed up in the colposcopy clinic between January 1987 and August 1990 were reviewed and the results of cytology and colposcopy evaluated. Out of 90 patients with signs of residual disease only 28 (31 per cent) had dyskaryosis on the cervical smear (mild, moderate or severe) which coincided with dysplasia in the cervical punch biopsy. Of the remaining 62 patients, 43 (48 per cent) had a dyskaryotic smear with an apparently normal colposcopy and 19 (21 per cent) had dysplasia in the colposcopic punch biopsy with no dyskaryosis in the smear.
