Summary
Summary
A prospective observational study to assess the effect of epidural and general anaesthesia on bladder function of 50 parturients delivered by elective caesarean section. All the women had pre-and postoperative bladder volume assessed using a trans-abdominal ultrasound scan. Women delivered under epidural block (n = 30) had increased postoperative residual bladder volumes (P > 0.01) but there was no increase in the incidence of urinary retention.
