Abstract
In the immature 30-day-old caput and cauda epididymides of the rat, only a single prealbumin protein was visible. Additional epididymis-specific proteins appeared in the caput on day 45, coinciding with the entry of testicular fluid containing first wave of spermatozoa. In the cauda epididymides, additional proteins appeared only on day 50. These results indicate that the functional differentiation of caput precedes that of the cauda epididymidis.
