Grieving and the Acceptance of the Homosexual Identity

Pages 101-113 | Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

The grieving process is used as a model for explaining the process of resolving internalized negative societal attitudes toward homosexuality. The distressing feelings and personal difficulties involved in accepting or rejecting a homosexual orientation and life-style, as encountered by a woman struggling with identity formation, are presented in the context of a therapeutic nurse-client relationship.
