Abstract

Rhinogenous retrobulbar neuritis is rather rarely seen in Europe but more common in Japan. In this paper, one case of retrobulbar neuritis caused by sinusitis and three cases of acute onset of retrobulbar neuritis caused by long-standing post-operative pyocele are reported. Three possible pathophysiologic routes of optic nerve disturbance related to para-nasal inflammation are discussed.
